More Apple iDevices got Activated this Holiday Season than those from Samsung, even though the Gap is Narrowing
Flurry Analytics reports today that with the dates of Christmas and synced this year, smartphones were once again predominate on everyone's wish lists. As we do every year, Flurry took a look at the most gifted smartphones and tablets this holiday season, examining phone and app activation throughout the week leading up to Christmas day and the start of Hanukkah. .
For every Samsung Device Activated, Apple Saw Two. While that's great, the ratio is closing every year and if it weren't for the Note7 disaster the gap would have been a closer race this year.
As it stands, in 2014 the ratio was Apple 51.3% and Samsung at 17.7; and in 2015 it was Apple at 49.1% and Samsung at 19.8%. In 2016 the ratio is Apple 44% and Samsung at 21%.
Phablets are the Future
Phablets devices (5in-6.9in) continue to eat away at medium phone (3.5in-4.9in) market share. Although medium phones saw the most activations during the week leading up to the holidays, Phablets continue to increase their holiday share, at the detriment of the medium phone. Tablet device activations have stabilized and are relatively flat year over year. This indicates that users find purpose for their purchase, albeit the devices cater to more niche use.See the Flurry report for more information.
