A U.S. patent troll by the name of Digital Audio Encoding Systems, LLC, is using an acquired German patent to sue Apple with. Their patent covers resolving technical problems related to encoding signals, such as digitized audio signals, and processing of such signals. The company alleges that Apple's HTTP Live Streaming Server which practices a method and/or apparatus, in which a signal is encoded, infringes on their patent. Further, Apple's Best Practices for creating and deploying HTTP Live Streaming Media for the iPhone and iPad infringes on their patent.

The company claims in their complaint before the court that Apple specifically infringes on their patent 7,490,037 claims 1, 5, 9-11, 13, 17, 21-22, 24, 29, and 32. The patent infringement case presented in today's report was filed in the Delaware District Court. At present, no Judge has been assigned to the case.
