Apple Clearly Told the Indian Government that they had no Immediate Plans to Sell Refurbished iPhones
We reported back on April 22 that sources stated that Apple indicated in their presentation to the Indian goverment that it may produce products locally in the future, confirming past rumors. "When pressed on the issue of Apple selling refurbished iPhones in India that caused a stir recently, Apple reportedly stated that they had no immediate plans to implement such a program in India." End of story, right? Well, no.
Even though it had been clearly reported that it was Apple who downplayed the plan to sell refurbished iPhones in India, somehow Bloomberg reports that "India has rejected Apple Inc.'s request to import and sell refurbished iPhones to the world's second largest mobile population, a telecommunications ministry official said Tuesday."
How could it have been rejected when Apple stated that they had no immediate plans to implement such a program close to two weeks ago? Either way, no such plan will be implemented in India.
