Apple's Business made TSMC the Top Foundry in 2015 and the iPhone 7's A10 will keep them there
IC Insights has released its 2015 top IC foundries (pure-play and IDM) ranking. TSMC, by far, was the leader with US$26.4 billion in sales last year. TSMC's foundry sales increased by US$1.464 billion in 2015 while its sales to Apple jumped by US$1.99 billion, representing more than 100% of TSMC's total foundry sales increase during the year. As a result, without Apple, TSMC's foundry sales would have declined by 2% in 2015, eight points less than the 6% increase it logged when including Apple, IC Insights indicated. TSMC's 2015 sales were over five times that of second-ranked Globalfoundries and almost 12 times the sales of the fifth-ranked China-based foundry SMIC, IC Insights said.
With the news that TSMC reportedly is the exclusive supplier of Apple's A10 processor for the iPhone 7, the news is only get better for TSMC in 2016.
