Apple Granted 62 Patents Today Covering a Folded Telephoto Lens System, Siri for CarPlay & More
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 62 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we cover Apple's granted patents covering a folded telephoto lens system for iOS devices and one for Siri that covers an in-vehicle component which we now know is CarPlay. We wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple today.
Granted Patent: Folded Telephoto Camera Lens System
Apple's newly granted patent covers their invention relating to an iOS device camera that includes a photosensor and a compact folded telephoto lens system. Folding the optical path of the camera lens system may facilitate achieving a small form factor for the camera lens assembly, and may also facilitate achieving a high resolution optical lens system using a relatively small number of lens elements in the small form factor.

Granted Patent: Intelligent Automated Assistant
Apple's newly granted patent covers their invention relating to Siri and more specifically for classes of applications for intelligent automated One class of application relates to Apple's CarPlay. Apple's patent notes that "Automobiles and other vehicles with dashboard interfaces and sensors for which the client may be implemented as an embedded system application 1304D. This includes, but is not limited to, car navigation systems, voice control systems, in-car entertainment systems, and the like.
Apple's granted patent 9,318,108 was originally filed in Q1 2011 as Apple's late CEO Steve Jobs was introducing the iPad. You could find other Siri related patent reports here, here and one here for Siri on the desktop.
