In 2015 Apple's Global MacBook Growth was Third Best in the Industry
According to a new analytical report published today, global notebook shipments dropped significantly in 2015 mainly due to the impact of currency depreciation on the demand in Europe and the emerging markets, a major point that was emphasized by Apple's CEO during their latest financial conference call. According to market research firm TrendForce, worldwide notebook shipments for 2015 totaled 164.4 million units, representing a year-on-year decline of 6.3%. Apple's growth rate was the third best for 2015 behind growth winners Lenovo and Dell.
TrendForce noted in their report that HP and Lenovo will still be rivaling for the top spot in the notebook market during 2016. In fact HP has a good chance of holding the most market share this year and maintaining its leadership position because of the relatively stronger U.S. market.
The competition for the fourth, fifth and sixth position had been fierce throughout 2015. Apple managed to overtake ASUS and Acer to become the No. 4 brand in the annual ranking. New MacBook models and strong demand in the U.S. drove Apple's notebook shipments, bringing its global market share to 10.34%.
While the TrendForce report byline states that Apple gained greater market share annually in 2015, the twist to that is their gain only landed them in third spot overall. The fact is that Lenovo was the winner with growth of 2.4%, Dell at 1.4% and Apple in third with a 1% gain.
