A Revolving Verdict against Apple in Patent Infringement Case is Sign for why Patent Reform is desperately needed
In November 2012 Apple lost their FaceTime patent lawsuit to VirnetX who was awarded $368.2 million. Apple appealed and in September 2014 the Federal Appeals Court threw out the VirnetX award. Then VirnetX appealed again and the WSJ reports that Apple has now been ordered to pay them $625.6 million over the same lawsuit. Now Apple is set to file yet another appeal. An Apple spokeswoman stated after the Texas Court verdict that they were "surprised and disappointed by the verdict," adding that "cases like this simply reinforce the desperate need for patent reform."
