Back in November, Quanta's chairman was quoted as saying that Apple's next smartwatch has an "end of Q2 2016" release time frame. Despite a rumor that Quanta could push the Apple Watch 2 out earlier, it's being reported on today that the supply chain still has the Apple Watch 2 scheduled for the original end of Q2 2016 time line.

Today's supply chain report from Taiwan noted that "The second-generation Apple Watch is expected to enter mass production in the second quarter with Quanta Computer to be the sole manufacturer of the device, according to sources from the upstream supply chain.

Apple originally considered shifting some second-generation Apple Watch orders to Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry), but decided to keep all the orders with Quanta as volumes will not be high, the sources noted."

The Apple Watch was the number one selling smartwatch on the market in 2015.
