Apple Granted 55 Patents Today Covering Fingerprint Technology behind Touch ID, Self-Adapting Haptics & more
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 55 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. This morning we've already covered seven new design patents issued to Apple covering the Mac Pro and Apple Watch Sport. We also covered two 3D mapping patents (one and two) and one for an iPhone dock with a self-retracting connector. Apple was also granted three new fingerprint patents covering imaging, sensors and sensing as they relate to Apple's Touch ID and a second patent for 'self adapting haptic device' under patent 9,202,355. We covered Apple's first granted patent regarding this technology last year in greater detail. We wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple today.
Noted below are patent figures 3 and 5 from granted patent 9,202,099 titled "Fingerprint Sensing and Enrollment," which covers the Touch ID set-up process for an iPhone 5s (as noted in our cover graphic) and newer models as well as the iPad Air 2.
