German Anti-Cartel Watchdog Examining Amazon-Apple Deal on Audio Books

Several sources including Reuters and Bloomberg are reporting this morning that Germany's anti-cartel watchdog said Monday that it is examining if a deal between Amazon's subsidiary Audible.com and Apple to distribute digital audio books flouted rules. The two US giants have a long-standing agreement in which audio books offered for sale on Apple's iTunes store are sold through Audible. The cartel office chief Andreas Mundt said in a statement that "The two companies have a strong position in the digital offering of audiobooks in Germany. Therefore, we feel compelled to examine the agreement between these two competitors in the audiobooks in more detail."
