Apple wins an 'Apple Pencil' Related Patent for use with an iPad and Future iPhone

1AF 55 COVER APPLE PENCIL

The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 44 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we cover Apple's newly granted patent that covers their invention relating to the Apple Pencil. The patent covers styluses capable of receiving stimulation and force signals and generating stylus stimulation signals, and touch sensitive devices capable of receiving stylus stimulation signals. The stylus can include a force sensor to detect an amount of force applied to a tip of the stylus. The stylus stimulation signal can be modulated based on the force detected by the force sensor.

Apple's patent FIG. 12 illustrates an exemplary personal device 1200, such as a tablet, that can be used with a stylus and FIG. 13 illustrates another exemplary personal device 1300, such as a mobile phone, that can be used with a stylus.

 

Apple's FIG. 7 noted below illustrates a simplified view of a touch/stylus combo system that utilizes separate channels to encode stylus magnitude.

Apple's granted patent 9,176,604 was originally filed in Q3 2012 and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
