Apple Likely to use Lightning Audio Connector for iPhone 7
Last year we posted a granted patent report about Apple's new lightning based audio connector. The patent figures noted in our cover graphic came from granted patent 8,911,260. Apple's invention noted that their patent pending invention would replace today's traditional TRS styled audio connectors for iDevices like the iPhone, iPad and iPod. A rumor in Japan today points to the iPhone 7 likely to make the switch to the new audio connector and eliminate the current audio port. This rumor has surfaced before and Philips was the first to introduce headphones using the lightning connector last September. Will Apple finally make the shift to a lightning audio connector for the iPhone 7? More than likely.
