Apple Granted 32 Patents Today Covering the Glass iPhone, the Original iPad Crediting Steve Jobs as Inventor & More
The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 32 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we cover Apple's patents covering their iPhone models with front and back glass surfaces, the gesture for pinch and rotate and a design patent for the original iPad which gives credit to the industrial design team including the late CEO Steve Jobs. We wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple today.
Granted Patent: Detection of Finger Pinch, Rotate, and Tap Gestures
Apple's newly granted patent covers their invention relating to finger gestures detectable at the surface of a touch sensor panel, and more particularly, to the detection of finger pinch, rotate, and tap gestures along with translation and optionally liftoff motion to initiate certain actions.
Apple's patent FIG. 7a illustrates an exemplary combined finger pinch/translation gesture; FIG. 8a illustrates an exemplary combined finger rotation/translation gesture.
Apple's granted patent 9,182,884 was originally filed in Q1 2014 and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Granted Patent: iPhone with Outer Glass Surfaces
Apple's newly granted patent covers their invention that relates to the iPhone 4 and 5 models that provided front and back glass surfaces. Specifically, Apple's patent states that the invention relates "to an electronic device housing that can have one or more outer members (e.g., exposed major surfaces), such as front or back surfaces, that are formed of glass. The one or more glass surfaces can be part of outer member assemblies that can be secured to other portions of the electronic device housing."
Apple's granted patent 9,185,816 was filed in Q3 2012 and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Apple Granted an iPad Design Patent
Apple was granted a design patent today for the original iPad and user interface that lists Apple's late CEO Steve Jobs as one of the inventors.
