Apple behind Schedule on Key iPhone 7 Component and has Reportedly Placed Orders with Synaptics

10.6. NEWS - RUMOR

Apple has reportedly placed LCD driver IC orders for its 2016 series of iPhones with Synaptics, indicating its in-house developed touch and display driver integration (TDDI) single-chip solutions will not be ready on time for the iPhone 7.

The development of Apple's in-house developed TDDI solutions has fallen behind schedule, as the smartphone vendor has released orders for its 2016 models to Synaptics. The report notes that Apple hired senior engineers from Renesas, a company which Synaptics acquired last year

In June of this year we posted a report titled "Apple Reportedly working on a Full iPhone Display that Drops their Classic Home Button," wherein we learned that "The TDDI single-chip solutions will also come with integrated fingerprint sensors, said the sources. The integrated design would fit into future iPhone designs – models with ultra-thin and ultra-narrow displays, and with a whole plane design eliminating the Home button." The report supported two distinct Apple patents about eliminating the Home Button here and here.

Last month Patently Apple posted a report titled "Synaptics Introduces Me-Too Technology that will Assist Android OEMs Match Apple's 3D Touch Advantage in 2016."
