Apple's iPad Pro to Enter Production in September with Sharp Getting the Nod for the Larger Displays
Taiwan supply chain sources claim that Apple's 12.9-inch iPad Pro will enter production by the end of the third quarter and go into mass production in the fourth. Sharp will provide Open Cell LCD displays while GIS will provide GF touch panels. The Foxconn Group subsidiary General Interface Solution (GIS) will be mainly responsible for touch modules, lamination and LCM assembly. The sources noted they estimate iPad Pro shipments will reach between 4-5 million in 2015 due to the device's fourth-quarter release.
Samsung Display and TPK will be secondary suppliers, with TPK responsible for touch modules and Samsung for displays as well as LCD assembly.
Heading into the second half of 2015, GIS is also expected to land a larger portion of iPad and iPad mini touch panel orders while TPK's share will decrease, the sources added.
Will the iPad Pro finally make its debut after years of speculation? Only time will tell.
