Samsung Reportedly Set to Launch their Next-Gen Galaxy Note 5 on August 12th
We posted a report last week titled "Samsung will Attempt to Release new Phablets Earlier than Expected to get ahead of Apple's new iPhones." Today, sources within Taiwan-based telecom carriers are saying that Samsung Electronics will unveil its new flagship smartphone Galaxy Note 5 in New York on August 12 and launch the model in major markets on August 14, well ahead of schedule as we reported.
Samsung usually launches its Note-series products in September, and the advanced launch appears to avoid a direct take on with the forthcoming new iPhone devices which are expected to hit the market in mid-September, said the sources.
The Galaxy Note 5 will feature a 14nm Exynos processor developed in house and a 5.7-inch 2K curved touchscreen, supporting wireless rapid charging technology.
Shipments of iPhone 6 devices totaled about 54 million units in the second quarter of 2015 and the best second-quarter performance ever for Apple, the sources indicated. Powered by the launch of new iPhones in September, total shipments of iPhone devices are likely to climb to 62 million units in the third quarter, the sources estimated.
Samsung's early launch shows that they fear Apple's next iPhone could continue to keep their smartphones sales under fire and below expectations for the year.
Will Samsung launch their next generation on August 12th as being reported today in Taiwan or will they wait until their keynote event at Berlin's IFA later in August? Only time will tell.
