Patently Apple was first to report that Samsung was going to change tactics against the iPhone 6 by moving or at least adding a Galaxy S6 Edge phone with a 5.7"display. While the 5.7" display has been reserved for their Galaxy Note, it would now appear that Samsung wants to mimic Apple's two-tier smartphone approach. Our report further noted that Samsung would even introduce new "S6 Edge Plus" branding. As crazy as that sounded at the time, this is the same company who copied "Apple Pay" with "Samsung Pay" and so it wasn't out of the range of possibilities. Today we discovered Samsung's trademark filing for the new "S6 Edge +" with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. It was officially filed a week ago.

Samsung filed their trademark under International Class 009 with just the words "Smart Phones" listed.

With Samsung's new S6 Edge + trademark almost confirming a 5.7" display model is on the way, the mystery quickly shifts to what they'll be doing with their next generation Galaxy Note to differentiate it enough beyond simply offering their S Pen. Will Samsung simply increase the Note's display size or introduce a dual-display design? Only time will tell.

One last note: Samsung filed for the trademark S6 Note two weeks ago.
