Apple Granted Two User Interface Design Patents in China
Late on Friday Hong Kong's Patent and Trademark Office granted Apple two user interface design patents. Apple's design patent number 1402195.0 covers iOS 8's user interface for notifications. Apple's second design win under number 1402183.4 relates to the OS X dock user interface. More specifically, it represents the new Handoff feature.
The first design patent noted below illustrates three panels of iOS 8 user interfaces in various stages of its notification feature.
The user interface design patent noted below relates to OS X. However, the only part of the design that's being granted is the design within the solid outlines of the dock. The twist is that the UI feature shown on the extreme left is a part of Apple's new OS X Yosemite feature called Handoff and it's only available if you own a new iMac. My iMac is four years old and I don't access to this cool feature.
The icon shown in the box on the extreme left of the dock is irrelevant (being Safari), as it could represent any app that you have on your iPhone carried over to you Mac via Handoff.
Below is an example of what Continuity via Handoff looks like and you can see it mirrors Apple's granted patent figure above. You could read more about it here.
Below is one of the design patent confirmations in-part for the new user interface design patents granted to Apple on Friday. The form reveals that Apple filed for these designs on November 27 2014.
