Report Updated February 4, 2015

Today the European Trademark Office published two of Apple's trademark applications for "Digital Crown" and "Watch OS" that were originally filed yesterday. Apple's legal team has been on a steady roll filing Apple Watch related trademarks throughout February and now into March.

Apple's Trademark Application In-Part for "Digital Crown"

Apple Watch's Digital Crown appears like any watch crown except that there's a modern Apple twist to it all. Apple states that "On mechanical watches, the crown has historically been used to set the time and date and to wind the mainspring. We reimagined it as a versatile tool that answers the fundamental challenge of how to magnify content on a small display. Pinching to zoom, as you do on iPhone, is impractical. But rotating the Digital Crown allows you to zoom and scroll nimbly and precisely, without obstructing your view. You can also push it like a button to return to the Home screen, making it an integral part of the Apple Watch experience."

Apple's Trademark Application In-Part for "Watch OS"

Watch OS is the system software of the Apple Watch, developed by Apple Inc. It is based on the iOS mobile operating system and has many features similar to those of iOS. Apple states that "From the moment you wake the display with a simple raise of the wrist, you'll be comfortable using Apple Watch. The Watch OS feels amazingly fresh. But it's visually reminiscent of what you're used to seeing, and is designed around simple gestures, such as zooming and panning, that already come naturally."
