LG Seen as Sole Apple Watch Display Supplier for 2015
A report published in Asia Sunday states that in a recent note to investors, J.P. Morgan analyst J.J. Park has revealed that tech giant Apple will depend on only one Asian display manufacturer for supplying the displays for its much-anticipated new product - the Apple Watch wearable device – this year.
According to Park's note, the company which will be the sole supplier of Apple Watch's p-OLED display in 2015 is LG Display. Park added that Apple has worked out an exclusivity deal with LG Display for the supply of Apple Watch display panels in 2015. The analyst's firm has also projected that the deal will apparently result in an up to 25 percent increase in the LG stock.
LG Display's reported Apple Watch deal is highly noteworthy and beneficial to LG if they can maintain a price for the Apple Watch p-OLED display at $45 throughout the year.
Going by the forecasts of the J.P. Morgan team of analysts, Apple is likely to ship 29 million units of Apple Watch device in 2015. Moreover, it is also being projected that, by 2016, the number of Apple Watch shipments will probably witness a more than two-fold increase to 61 million units.
As interesting as the J.P. Morgan team's note was, they are in fact five months behind the news.
