Apple was granted a patent earlier this month relating to video glasses and Apple is known to have other patents on this project or record as well (one, two and three). In December, shortly after Apple acquired Israeli company PrimeSense we posted a report titled "Take a Peek at a Few Key PrimeSense Patents that Apple Gained." One of their patents on record was for a video headset.

With Primesense being a leader in 3D technology, they could most definitely accelerate Apple's project, if that was indeed a priority with Apple. This week we reported on Apple's CEO Tim Cook being in Israel to open their new office. The Times of Israel stated in their report that "according to sources in Apple's Israeli operation, the tech behemoth has hired dozens of engineers who are "bringing with them knowledge that Apple does not currently possess, and they will get a finished product almost specifically made for them."

Obviously there's some project that Apple's 3D team in Israel is working on that is going to be a product sometime down the road. Will it be for a 3D camera or a video headset? Only time will tell. Then again, there's another strong clue to consider. Apple posted new job postings on Wednesday for display engineers related to VR environments as noted below in black and white.

Apple is seeking a display engineer with a variety of display experience including monitors and projection. Of course Apple filed for a 3D holographic invention back in 2008 – so the engineer could be for a number of related future projects and products related to 3D. With a dedicated 3D team in Israel, it's clear that there's going to be a family of products related to 3D technologies and not just a single device or product.

Apple is looking for a candidate who understands the key issues associated with developing extremely high fidelity VR environments. Okay that's a nice buzz line.

Of course we have no idea how far along Apple's 3D, VR projects are at this stage, but it's encouraging to see the pieces of the puzzle coming together nicely from patents to acquisitions through to hiring the right team to get it done, whatever their secret VR project happens to be.
