Apple Seeks U.S. Trademarks for New Mac Logo in B/W & Color
Last weekend we reported that Apple had filed a trademark application in Hong Kong for their revised Mac logo. Today the U.S. Patent Office published two trademark applications from Apple for the same logo in color and black and white. The new Mac Logo better reflects Apple's flatter User Interface that was first introduced last year with iOS 7 and now extends through to OS X Yosemite.
Apple's Trademark Application In-Part for "Mac" Logo
According to US Patent and Trademark Office's documentation, the trademark was filed under International Class 009 which specifically covers "Computers, computer peripherals, computer software and computer operating system software."
The simplified coverage of Apple's U.S. version of class 9 coverage is in stark contrast to their Hong Kong filing that we covered here. In their Hong Kong filing Apple also filed their trademark under additional International Classes 35, 37 and 42.
Apple also filed for the Mac logo in color under U.S. application number 86486916. To view the colored logo, see our Hong Kong trademark report as linked to above.
Patently Apple presents a basic summary of new trademark filings with their associated graphics for journalistic news purposes as each such trademark is revealed by the U.S. and/or other foreign Patent & Trademark Offices. This category covers a few Industrial Design reports each year while others could be found in our granted patent archives. Readers are cautioned that the full text of any trademark application should be read in its entirety for further details.
