Apple Granted 35 Patents Today Covering Magic Trackpad, Embedded Force Measurements, Location Tracking & More
The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 35 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today, the last publishing day for 2014. In this particular report we briefly cover three of Apple's granted patents. The first relates to input transitions that are used on Apple's Magic Trackpad. The second patent covers embedded force measurements for use on iDevice displays and the third patent relates to location tracking and recording on iDevices. We wrap up this week's granted patent report with our traditional listing of the remaining granted patents that were issued to Apple today.
Apple Granted Patent: Touch Input Transitions Relating to Apple's Magic Trackpad & Beyond
Apple has been granted a patent today for their invention relating to transitions between touch input selections, and more particularly, to selecting an input of contacts on or near a touch sensing surface. The contacts can be tracked to obtain touch information of the contacts, such as a number of contacts, motions of the contacts, timing of liftoffs and touchdowns, etc.
Apple's patent FIG. 1D noted below illustrates an example wireless trackpad #150, which can be wirelessly connected to a personal computer such as an iMac (desktop computer).
Apple credits Wayne Westerman as the sole inventor of granted patent 8,922,499 which was originally filed in Q3 2010 and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Apple Granted Patent: Embedded Force Measurement with Flex Display
Apple has been granted a patent today for their invention relating to a force detection system that detects force exerted on a flexible display based upon changes in resistance and/or capacitance. Apple's patent FIG. 3 below shows Apple iPhone using the invention in connection with GarageBand. Patently Apple covered this invention in-depth as a patent application back in May 2013. See our report for more details.
Apple credits Brian Lynch, Benjamin Rappoport, Fletcher Rothkopf, Paul Drziac and Scott Myers as the inventors of granted patent 8,922,523 which was originally filed in Q and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
Apple Granted Patent: Location Based Tracking
Apple has been granted a patent today for their invention relating to Location information used to build a database of locations having associated audio, video, image and text data.
In some implementations, a method includes: presenting a map of a geographic region on a touch-sensitive display; receiving touch input selecting a geographic location; determining geographic positioning information of the geographic location; receiving data in response to an input received by a touch-sensitive display; associating the data with the geographic positioning information of the geographic location to produce geographically tagged data; and storing the geographically-tagged data.
Apple credits Scott Forstall, Gregory Christie, Robert Borchers and Imran Chaudhri as the inventors of granted patent 8,924,144 which was originally filed in Q1 2012 and published today by the US Patent and Trademark Office.
