A $99 Intel-Based Tablet Debuts at Walmart on Black Friday
The Cheap Intel Tablet Attack Begins: Intel is pumping up E FUN's new 8-inch Nextbook that uses an Intel Atom processor and Windows. The new tablet device that will attempt to compete with Apple's first generation iPad mini will hit Walmart stores on Black Friday and will retail for just US$99. Walmart will also be selling the original iPad mini for US$199. Though in the end, the new E FUN tablet will likely have a better chance of competing with Android tablets this coming Friday and during the coming holiday season.
Intel states that the new tablet offers the power, performance and battery life to meet the needs of ultra-mobile, constantly connected consumers with a very attractive price point. The device comes equipped with a one-year subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal, 1TB of OneDrive cloud storage and 16GB of internal storage. The 8-inch Nextbook available through Walmart also includes a bonus 16GB micro SD memory card, which doubles the unit's storage capacity to 32GB.
Other specifications include a display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 and could be used with a stylus for notes are artwork; offers a 0.3MP front camera and 2MP backside camera; has a 3-axix G-Sensor for playing driving car games better and more.
While offering Microsoft Office 365 for a free one year subscription sounds good, the fact is that in order to keep it will cost a consumer in the area of $70 per annum. With a purchase of an iPad mini, you pay more upfront but you get Apple's iWork and iLife software suits free so there's no ongoing costs to the user.
But if the short term is what matters to you and your family, then for some that are price conscious, the E FUN table deal could make sense for the secondary tablets in your home if you want to avoid Android alternatives.
