Apple iPhone 6 Pre-orders Clobber Samsung's Note 4 in Korea

10. News
On Friday we reported that "Apple Takes the Smartphone War to Korea with Pre-Orders. Today the results are in on how well Apple did. According to a new report this morning, in less than an hour, South Korean carriers reported that the iPhone 6 pre-orders had reached tens of thousands, outpacing the rate reported for Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 model at its launch in September. Can you say OUCH?

According to Reuters, KT Corp., the first telecom company to introduce the iPhone to the Korean market, said the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus models together racked up 10,000 orders in one minute, and in thirty minutes topped 50,000 orders.

LG Uplus Corp., which is selling the iPhone for the first time, said it received 20,000 orders for the new iPhones within 20 minutes.

South Korea's largest mobile carrier, SK Telecom Co., declined to comment on specific figures but confirmed that the first and second batch of presale orders for the new iPhones have been fully booked. The carrier opened up its third round this morning, a SK Telecom spokesman said. None of the carriers would specify the quota of phones for each presale period.

The other two carriers are also taking further presale orders. The iPhones will be made available on store shelves and for customers from Oct. 31.

Analysts estimate total presale figures for the new iPhones have reached roughly 100,000 units, which tops an estimated 30,000 units for the Galaxy Note 4 over a similar time frame.

Lee Seung-woo, an analyst with IBK Securities in Seoul stated that "with Apple piggybacking on Samsung's large-screen strategy, there are concerns that Samsung will lose its only advantage, which has been its large screen sizes."

In our Friday report we noted that "Although South Korea is fairly nationalistic and likely to favor smartphones from Samsung and LG, Apple's new iPhone Plus is expected to gain some traction against Samsung's Note 4." Wow, who would expected the iPhone 6 to clobber the Galaxy Note 4 right out of the gate? This is certainly an iPhone milestone to remember.

Earlier this morning we reported that Apple's First iPhone 6 Allotment to India Sold Out in 72 hours. Apple's iPhone 6 Mania continues to sweep the globe.
