Report Claims a 4.6 to 1 Ratio for iPhone 6 over 6 Plus in Japan

In a new report this morning we learn about a new BCN survey that shows us an interesting breakdown in iPhone sales amongst local Japanese carriers and more importantly, how the all-new iPhone phablet is doing in one of Apple's most important markets.

According to a new BCN survey, they found that Softbank accounted for 42.9% of iPhone sales in Japan, KDDI or au with 32.2% and NTT DoCoMo with 24.9%.

The split of iPhone 6 vs. 6 Plus broke down to 82.2% and 17.8% respectively which roughly translates to being a 4.6 to 1 ratio. This ratio could significantly narrow further once the iPhone 6 finally launches in China where their love affair with phablets is at its highest.

Japan was included in the first wave of countries to receive Apple's iPhone 6 and 6 Plus and was part of the 10 million sold in the first three days. For more on this see "iPhone 6 is Blowing Away the Competition in Japan."

While the new stats out of Japan have shown an almost 5:1 ratio in Japan in favor of the iPhone 6 over the iPhone 6 Plus, a recent Chitika report covering North American web traffic of iPhones initially clocked it in as an 8:1 ratio for the first weekend of traffic.

The real test for the iPhone 6 Plus will be in China where phablets are in higher demand. It's here where Apple's all-new phablet will face off against its toughest competition from the likes of Samsung and hot native rivals Xiaomi, Lenovo and Huawei. All eyes will be on this race over the next several quarters.
