Sprint Sees Apple as a Crucial Part of their Reinvention

According to The Street, Sprint may soon aggressively cut its wireless prices under new Marcelo Claure, according to analysts who have met with the telecom's incoming CEO. Claure could time Sprint's price cuts with Apple's rollout of the iPhone 6, which is expected this fall. UBS analyst John Hodulik wrote in a client note that "We expect a newly aggressive Sprint prior to next month's iPhone refresh, which will turbo-charge competition in the wireless industry." However, news breaking later in the day points to Sprint moving to cut prices on their plans well ahead of the arrival of the iPhone 6. They want consumers to see Sprints aggressive new plans so that those buying a new iPhone will be persuaded to go with Sprint over rival plans. Report Update August 18, 2014: Sprint delivered on new plans that you could review here.

Sprint Corp will implement "very disruptive" prices next week, newly appointed Chief Executive Officer Marcelo Claure said at a company-wide town hall meeting on Thursday, according to the telecommunications industry website, Light Reading.

Claure added that "We're going to change our plans to make sure they are simple and attractive, and make sure every customer in America thinks twice about signing up to a competitor."

Light Reading reported that Claure spent his first day on the job meeting Apple's CEO Tim Cook, and said "Apple will become a crucial part of Sprint."

With Apple being so secretive, we'll just have to wait and see what that translates into over the coming weeks and months ahead.
