Chinese Report Confirms 100,000 new iPhone Workers Hired

10. News
On July 7 we posted a report titled "Hon Hai's Plan to Hire 100,000 Workers for iPhone 6 Production Throws Cold Water on Speculative Robot Rumors." Today that rumor was supported by a new DigiTimes report.

According to the report, "Taiwan-based EMS provider Foxconn Electronics is recruiting 100,000 production line workers aged 23-40 for its factory in Zhengzhou City of Henan Province, northern China, mainly for production of Apple's new iPhone, according to a media report from China.

Foxconn recorded imports worth US$1 billion, mainly handset components, for the factory in June, the chinanew.com report cited the provincial government as indicating. The factory produced 42.9 million handsets in the first half of 2014 and the provincial government hopes that the factory can reach output of 120 million iPhones and 30 million handsets for other vendors in 2014."

That would translate to roughly 77 million iPhones for the second half of 2014. That's close to what we reported on earlier this week with supply chain suppliers estimating that 60-70 million new iPhones would be manufactured by the end of 2014. Other reports have even estimated higher numbers, though that would now depend on whether the 5.5 inch iPhone is going to ship in 2014 or 2015.
