Apple TV may Challenge SMART Boards in Education Market
The School District of Beloit will begin phasing out SMART Boards in favor of Apple TVs to make the latest technologies available in the classroom. In a unanimous vote the Board approved the purchase of 60 Apple TV systems at its Tuesday evening special meeting.
Principal Kevin Kitslaar noted that Apple TV allows students to project their iPads up on the T.V. All of the new classrooms will have an Apple TV in them. Since the teachers have MacBooks, they are also able to project up what is on their computer screen up on the T.V. The Apple TV can do everything a SMART Board can do and more."
Whether it was Apple's sales team who was trying to sell Apple TV to replace SMART Boards or simply innovation expressed by the School District of Beloit is unknown at this time. However, I'm sure that Apple will want to track the success of their Apple TV being used in this capacity as it could open a new door into the education market across the country and beyond.
