Apple Retakes Top Spot on Barron's 2014 list of Most Respected Companies Leaving the Competition in the Dust

Barron's is reporting today that while Berkshire Hathaway knocked Apple out of the Number One spot last year in Barron's annual ranking of the world's most respected companies, Apple has stormed back to take the top spot leaving the competition in the dust.

The article further notes that "Apple's comeback from third place last year tracks a similar revival in the company's shares, which lost almost half of their value in a seven-month span that ended in the spring of 2013. The stock has since gained more than 60%, to a split-adjusted $90.

One of the noteworthy points made in the article included this one: "Apple's iPhones, iPads, and Mac computers have enhanced the lives of billions in the developed world, has ranked No. 1 in our survey in four of the past five years, its domination not unlike a New York Yankees dynasty era."

According to Barron's report, "Apple Topped this year's ranking by scoring 3.94, giving it a wide margin of victory. Berkshire scored 3.58, and the mean was 2.37. Apple received the highest number of Highly Respect votes."

Yet the point that I appreciated the most is when Barron's stated that "Apple was dogged last year by concerns that it was losing its product mojo to Samsung Electronics. That hasn't happened yet." Exactly. After all the hoopla, Samsung's Galaxy S5 couldn't even beat the iPhone 5C in Britain and couldn't topple the iPhone 5S in the US.

Google was noted as being stuck at number four on Barron's list behind Boeing who took third spot and Berkshire Hathaway at number two. For more on this, see Barron's report.
