OpenTV Launched 3 Patent Infringement Lawsuits against Apple in Düsseldorf Germany Today
Last month Patently Apple was first to report that technology group Kudelski had stated that its OpenTV and Nagravision subsidiaries had filed a lawsuit against Apple in a court in northern California alleging Apple had infringed on five U.S. patents. On March 28, 2010 OpenTV became a fully owned subsidiary of the NAGRA Kudelski Group – Nagravision. Today, The Swiss Company filed three patent infringement lawsuits against Apple in Germany. Once again, the company has not provided the public with the patent numbers in this case to review.
According to their press release, "The Kudelski Group announced today that its OpenTV, Inc. and Nagravision SA subsidiaries have filed three patent infringement suits against Apple in Düsseldorf District Court.
The suits allege that Apple infringes three patents owned by OpenTV and Nagravision and seek, among other relief, to enjoin Apple from further infringement. The suits identify Apple's infringing products and services as including iOS mobile devices (iPhone, iPad, and iPod), Apple TV, App Store, and OS X-based personal computers.
Both Wikipedia and Wikinvest only have OpenTV's revenue numbers for 2009 at $120 million. In February of this year, Apple's CEO Tim Cook admitted that Apple TV was now too big to a hobby racking up a billion dollars in sales. I'm sure that's a number that motivated OpenTV to sue.
