English Speaking Canadians Resoundingly Choose Apple's iPad

10. News
A new report by the Media Technology Monitor (MTM) that was published by The Canadian Press states that more than 42 per cent of Anglophone or English speaking Canadians now own a tablet and most are increasingly choosing one of Apple's iPads.

According to the report, tablet ownership spiked by about 66 per cent between 2012 and 2013, according to the results of a MTM survey conducted with 4,009 English speaking Canadians between Oct. 7 and Dec. 1 of last year. The results of the telephone survey, conducted by Forum Research, are considered accurate within 1.5 percentage points 19 times out of 20.

Apple's iPads accounted for about two-thirds of the tablets owned by English Canadians. MTM's newest report suggests, while BlackBerry's PlayBook and Samsung's Galaxy Tab devices have a 10 per cent share of the market each. Apple's hold of the market has consistently grown in MTM's polls while the other brands have stagnated.

In the most recent MTM poll, they found that iPad users appeared to be more engaged with their tablets. About 45 per cent of the iPad owners said that they used their tablets several times daily, versus just 28 per cent of the Samsung tablet users and 23 per cent of PlayBook users.

Overall, 88% of tablet users typically used their tablets to surf the net with email being a close second. About half of tablet users enjoyed social networking.

Not surprisingly, MTM found consumers with higher incomes were far more likely to have bought a tablet.

For the record, Canada's population is made up of 78% Anglophone and 22% Francophone. The survey was likely conducted nationally exempting the Province of Quebec which is primarily Francophone (French speaking). There are currently 25 Apple Stores in English Canada and five in French Canada. No reasoning was given in the report as to why the survey took so long to be made public.
