Imagination Technologies Extends Licensing to Apple
Apple's latest iPhone 5s runs on the Apple A7 SoC that utilizes a 64-bit processor. The GPU in charge is the quad-core PowerVR (Series 6) G6430, which supports OpenGL 3.0, DirectX 10 and OpenCL 1.x. It's currently among the best of the market and eats benchmarks for breakfast. Today, Imagination Technologies extended their multi-year licensing agreement with Apple which gives them access to Imagination's wide range of current and future PowerVR graphics and video IP cores.
Under the terms of the above licensing arrangement, Imagination will receive on-going license fees, and royalty revenues on shipment of SoCs (Systems on Chip) incorporating Imagination's IP.
AT CES 2014 Imagination introduced the expansion of the PowerVR Rogue architecture with a new family of GPU IP cores designed to enrich what is already the best roadmap for graphics the mobile and embedded industry has seen. The new PowerVR Series6XT Rogue architecture drives performance to new levels while reducing power consumption even further through advanced PowerGearing mechanisms.
