Apple Wins Best Mobile Tablet Award at Mobile World Congress Trade Show in Barcelona
The Mobile World Congress (MWC) tradeshow in Barcelona is the largest tradeshow of the year for showcasing new mobile devices and everyone who's anyone attends this prestigious event with the exception of Apple. Yet that didn't stop the judges at MWC in recognizing that the best mobile tablet for 2014 was indeed Apple's iPad Air. The judges noted that "The iPad Air packs class-leading performance in an attractive and svelte frame, while its ecosystem has an undisputed advantage in the number of format-optimized apps." As noteworthy is the fact that Samsung, the great "volume leader," walked away without a win in any category of product at this year's event.
The GSMA announced the winners of the 19th Annual Global Mobile awards late yesterday at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The GSMA represents the interests of mobile operators worldwide and produces industry-leading events such as Mobile World Congress and Mobile Asia Expo. Today, Apple's iPad Air was awarded Best Mobile Tablet as noted below.
It should be noted that Samsung introduced their new "Gear Fit" wearable device and a new fingerprint scanner for the Galaxy S5 on Monday. Samsung's co-CEO JK Shin, head of Samsung Electronics' mobile division, stated during his keynote that their research told them that consumers didn't want eye-popping technology. No, they just wanted simple stuff. Further, Samsung's opening Galaxy S5 event video said that fashion didn't matter as much. Yet fashion was one of the very things that the judges at the MWC pointed out about Apple's award winning mobile tablet: …." class-leading performance in an attractive and svelte frame."
Sadly for Samsung fans, the company was shut out from winning any award at the MWC global awards this year. I guess focusing in on that innovative theme of "simple" didn't really impress anyone.
