Foxconn Further drops iPhone 5C Production to Focus on 5S
While DigiTimes is reporting today that Foxconn Electronics (Hon Hai Precision Industry) will stop production of the iPhone 5c at its factory in Zhengzhou, northern China, and shift the capacity to iPhone 5s, China-based ctechcn.com reports that Foxconn will not stop production of iPhone 5c but will rather reduce weekly output slightly. This adds the drop in production of the iPhone 5C as reported by Reuters last month.
A month ago Reuters reported that "Apple told its two assemblers, Taiwan-based Pegatron and Hon Hai that it would cut this quarter's orders for the iPhone 5C."
Apple had reportedly "told its Taiwanese assemblers Pegatron Corp. and Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. that shipments of the iPhone 5C in the fourth quarter would be cut, the people said. Pegatron, which analysts say assembles two thirds of the iPhone 5Cs, was told orders would be cut by less than 20%, said a person familiar with the matter. Hon Hai, which assembles the remaining low-cost iPhones, was told orders would be cut by a third.
An executive at Hon Hai, which is also known as Foxconn, said it stopped hiring additional workers to produce the iPhone 5C because of the reduced order."
The original iPhone 5C manufacturing breakdown was Pegatron received 70% and Foxconn 30% of orders respectively.
