Apple's iPhone 5S Shipping at Highest Daily Rate in History

1. News
Apple's production of iDevices for the all-important holiday season is cranking up to record highs. Earlier today we reported that iPad mini with Retina orders were getting back on track and were outpacing last year's production of the iPad mini. Now the news only gets better as the iPhone 5S is now flying off production lines at a rate of 500,000 units a day – a historic high for any iPhone model to date.

According to the Wall Street Journal, the waiting time for iPhone 5Ss has shortened significantly as major assembler Hon Hai (Foxconn) has been running its factories around the clock, adding more workers to its production lines. The turnaround time has shortened from 3-5 weeks to 3-5 days. In part, Apple's decision to cut back iPhone 5C orders has helped Hon Hai focus on the better selling iPhone 5S.

The report noted that because of the complexity of the iPhone 5S, likely due to the Touch ID feature, Hon Hai has 600 workers on each iPhone 5S production line to handle assembly work. That's an added 100 workers per line when compared with the production of the former iPhone 5 or the new iPhone 5C.
