Rumor: Synnex Gains iPhone Sales Right for China
DigiTimes posted a skimpy yet potentially important report today stating that Synnex Technology International (HK) Ltd., a Taiwan-based IT and consumer electronic products distributor, has obtained an iPhone sales agent right for the China market, according to the Chinese-language newspaper Commercial Times.
The chart below is from our July report titled "The Perfect Storm: All Eyes are on Apple's Strategy for China," which clearly showed Apple's performance between Q1 and Q2 in China in comparison to their competition.
While Apple's new iPhone and iPhone lite entries next month will quickly rectify Apple's one quarter slump, it appears that Apple wants added distribution in China beyond their current mobile carriers to boost sales quicker.
Little is known about Synnex Technology. DigiTimes states that their sales for the first half of the year have US $5.12 billion. Bloomberg's profile on Synnex Technology International Corporation states that they cover personal computers, computer peripherals, multi-media products, network products, computer application software, electronic parts, and telecommunication products. The Synnex website link to "About Us" provides zero information.
If the rumor is true, it's unknown as to whether Apple will use Synnex for the iPhone alone or for other Apple products.
