Even the Indian Government is getting into the App Store Craze
The App Store opened on July 10, 2008 via an update to iTunes. On July 11, the iPhone 3G was launched and came pre-loaded with iOS 2.0.1 with App Store support and zipping through to the present, Apple recently celebrated their new 50 billionth app download record. To capture the buzz about the App Store, Apple originally created an ad back in 2009 coining the phrase "There's an App for That," and even filed a trademark for it in that same year. Now even the Indian Government is getting into the App Store craze.
Today, a New Delhi report published by Press Trust of India was glad to report that less than 24 hours after its launch, the Ministry of External Affairs' app has topped the charts the on Apple Store in India.
Users can track passport applications with its help. In the next couple of months, people will be able to even apply for a passport through this free app.
The MEA envisages the app to be a "one-stop shop" for you. From getting updates from all the 124 Indian missions in the world, to getting information for consular access in case you are abroad, to booking yourself for the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra, everything is now available on your fingertips.
Soon Indian will be saying: do you want to apply for a new passport? No problem, there's an app for that. Who knows? Perhaps this could end up being a trend that other governments pick up on too.
