Microsoft's Office Mobile is Available for iPhone, Today

Today, Microsoft is releasing Office Mobile for iPhone available at no extra charge from the Apple App Store for Office 365 Home Premium and Office 365 ProPlus subscribers. Microsoft's new iPhone app enables great Office content viewing and on-the-go content editing capabilities.

Microsoft's Office News blog states that "after signing in to an Office 365 account, you'll be able to access, view and edit Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents from anywhere. And, you can count on Office Mobile to keep all your content and formatting intact so the document still looks great when you're back on your PC or Mac." More details about Office 365 is available on iTunes.

The timing of the announcement follows news from Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference that the default search engine for Siri will be Bing instead of Google, suggesting that the two companies are working closer together.

Apple also announced this week that iWork in the Cloud would work on Internet Explorer later this year. The two companies working together on mobile versions of their respective office applications to work anywhere, anytime on (almost) any device will be a productivity boost for busy executives who just need to get their work done as fast as possible. While it's only taken forever to get to this point, it's a positive move forward.

The only oddity to Microsoft's announcement is that there's no mention of their new app being able to work with Apple's iPad. Whether that's in the works for a future release is unknown at this time.
