Two Suicides Reported at iPhone 5 Foxconn Plant
Zhengzhou Foxconn is currently producing Apple's iPhone 5 and is preparing to manufacture Apple's new products. It was at this plant where 2 employees plunged to their deaths late last week.
According to a new press release posted by the credible China Labor Watch on April 27, 2013 and published today, states that two more suicides have occurred at Foxconn factory in Zhengzhou, on April 24 and 27, respectively. In both cases, the workers jumped off of buildings to their deaths.
According to Foxconn workers, a 24-year old male worker jumped off of the Yukang dormitory building on April 24. From April 25 to 27, the worker's family members set up a banner in front of Foxconn's factory gate in protest of the young man's death, attracting a crowd of workers.
After 6:00 pm on April 27, a 23-year old female worker jumped off of the 12th floor of Fuxin Apartment Building Number Nine. Workers said that she could not be saved by medical respondents.
Two years ago Apple's then COO Tim Cook went to China to convince Foxconn to attach large nets to its building to help combat a rash of suicides at the iPhone-maker's China contractor. At that time, Apple stated that it went through the facts behind each suicide and recommended several changes. The dual suicides late last week will undoubtedly be investigated by Apple in the coming days ahead.
