Apple Wins another Major Multitouch Patent and the First Acquired Kodak Patent Surfaces

The US Patent and Trademark Office officially published a series of 43 newly granted patents for Apple Inc. today. In this particular report we briefly cover two granted patents. The first relates to a multitouch display while the second relates to automatically installing software for transferring and sharing photos. The later appears to be one the first patents that Apple acquired from Kodak.


Apple Granted another Major Patent Relating to a Multitouch Display

 

Apple has been granted yet another major multi-touch patent relating to techniques that integrate touch sensing technology into liquid crystal displays and specifically, a multi-touch capable transparent touch surface. This patent may relates to Apple's In-Cell technology as there's descriptions of combining touch with the LCD display.


2. Multitouch patent, Apple, 04.30.13

Apple credits Steve Hotelling, Wei Chen, Christoph Krah, John Elias, Wei Yao, John Zhong, Andrew Hodge, Brian Land and Willem Den Boer as the inventors of this granted patent which was filed in Q2 2012 with links back to 2007. Acquired Kodak Patent: Apple is granted a Patent Relating to a Digital Camera for Sharing Digital Images

 

Apple has been granted a patent today for an invention relating to digital cameras that capture digital images, and, more particularly to digital cameras capable of automatically installing software for transferring and sharing digital images on multiple host computers.

3. Kodak Apple patent

This patent appears to be one of those that Apple acquired from Kodak. Granted patent 8,432,456 states that "Some recent digital cameras have been provided with a capability to automatically initiate the installation of the photo sharing software the first time the digital camera is connected to a host computer. Notably, the KODAK EASYSHARE M530 Digital Camera incorporates this feature."

 

Whether Apple is thinking of implementing this technology into a future standalone camera or into their iSight and/or iDevice cameras is unknown at this time.
