AU Optronics Testing iPad Mini 2 with New Level Retina Display

T 01 - Patently Informative
The current iPad mini offers a 7.9inch (diagonal) LED-backlit MultiTouch display with IPS technology with 1024-by-768 resolution at 163 pixels per inch. News this morning from "My Drivers," a Chinese website covering the IT industry and product launches, is that AU Optronics is piloting the production of the iPad mini 2 that will deliver pixel density at 2048 x 1536 pixels at 324 pixels per inch. Apple's current Flagship iPad 4's Retina display only offers 264 pixels per inch on a much larger 9.7 inch display. So the iPad mini 2 is actually going to take the Retina display to a whole new level.

Specs, according to Samsung don't appear to mean a thing. Apple's iPad display clarity crushes anything Samsung has.

On another note, I was looking at the Galaxy S3 and Galaxy Note the other day. I tapped on the display for the type to get larger on a news story that I wanted to read. Ha, what I joke. The damn text zoomed to way beyond anything I could read. It couldn't come close to Apple right everytime tap to zoom brilliance.

Samsung is a copycat and a lousy one at that. Get over it Android herder

At the time of mini's launch, only Samsung had the technology to produce a 7.9" screen at that high of a resolution. It seems other manufacturers are trying to catch up.

honestly i bought an ipad mini for my girlfriend and it cost $300 for the cheapest version. she's not going to be upset when they come out with one with a higher resolution screen. it's already a terrific experience. what's all this crying about them coming up with a better product? i bet the new ipad mini starts at $300-$400 and it's not that big of a deal to just buy another if it matters so much to you.

It's always frustrating when a product changes for the better so soon after it's initial release. Yet Apple didn't have the ability to bring Retina to market in Q4 as they were already experiencing product delays with Retina Display for their 9.7 iPad with Retina. I also think that the success of the iPad mini has taken Apple by surprise. As a general rule, buying the first of a new line of anything carries risks to the consumer. History has proven that time and time again. Apple may launch a Retina based iPad mini 2 sooner than October, but time will tell if that's true.

Why didn't Apple just make the iPad mini with the Retina display in the first place...they already have the technology! Now I have to wait till (maybe) October :|
