December's iPhone 5 Sales Beat Samsung's Total Mobile Phone Sales in Taiwan
Last week we pointed out that Asus Beat Apple out in tablet sales in December. I noted at the time that I thought it was an odd statistic to simply quote a single month's stats versus the full quarter as is traditional. But since this appears to be a new trend, let me give you some iPhone 5 stats for December that may surprise some. According to a new report from Taiwan's China Times, statistics from distributors indicate that the sales volume of Apple's iPhone 5 in Taiwan has reached 220,000 since its debut in mid-December. The market share of Apple's mobile phones in terms of sales volume soared to 26% in December, up from 1% in November.
In contrast Samsung Electronics' mobile phone sales volume market share in Taiwan slumped from 40% in November to 27% in December which translates to only being a single point ahead of Apple. However, according to this report, the market share of the iPhone 5 (as a single product) in terms of the sales value reached 45%, increasing nearly ten times Month-over-Month followed by Samsung Electronics' entire mobile phone sales value of 25% (down from 50% in November).
It would appear from these newly revealed stats that the momentum in Taiwan has now shifted to Apple's iPhone 5. No matter how you juggle the numbers, the iPhone 5 crushed the Galaxy S3 in Taiwan with just two weeks of iPhone 5 sales on record for the month of December. Can it get any sweeter than that?
