There's a Lot of Money in the Cloud!

Talk about timing. In ending yesterday's keynote at Computex 2011 in Taipei, Intel's Executive Vice President Sean Maloney stressed that there was a lot of money in the cloud! Cloud services ranging from storage to entertainment delivery were about to explode.

On Intel's part, Maloney stated that that one new Intel-based server is needed for roughly every additional 600 new smartphones or 122 new tablets connecting to the Internet: That adds up quickly. Yes – and that's why Apple will be rolling out their new iCloud services at their annual World Wide Developer Conference this coming Monday – June 6, 2011.  

As one clever Macite said to me recently – iCloud services will be like Apple's "Home Sharing" service on-the-go. Somehow that seemed to appeal to me more than it being MobileMe reborn. Then again, we'll know exactly what it is in just a few more days.

It was interesting to discover in the European filing that Apple's priority filing for iCloud was actually done in Jamaica (application number 057024) on December 07, 2010 – way before any news of them supposedly acquiring this brand name.
