Yesterday we reported that the Wall Street Journal had reported that the deal between Apple and Mobile China was officially signed according to their sources. We also expressed our skepticism in how the report contradicted a CNN report. We were justified in expressing our doubt as a new report from Beijing this morning confirms that there's no deal yet.
According to the report, China Mobile, the world's biggest wireless operator confirmed that they're still negotiating with Apple over offering iPhones on its huge network and that a deal has yet to be reached – and denied the Wall Street report.
The carrier's spokeswoman Rainie Lei told AFP that "Talks between China Mobile and Apple on cooperation are still going on and we currently do not have anything to announce." No further information was provided.
Negotiations between Apple and China Mobile have been going on for years, with one key hurdle reportedly being the US firm's demand for sales volume guarantees.
