Those who whine about the "obvious" are silly people. In hindsight everything appears to be obivious. Get over it. Apple beat everyone to the punch and they won a patent. If you don't like it, bitch to the patent office. So much whining for nothing. Really.

Unfortunately Apple was able to patent the obvious forcing other companies to use the non-obvious.

Almost all portable electronic devices have used some sort of physical slide to lock/unlock switch in the past (for power or functions such as sound etc...eg. Motorola did in the past with phones!).

When you eliminate physical buttons/switches what is the absolutely most obvious thing to do with a capacitive screen? Correct, it is to imitate it on a capacitive screen.
