Interesting how the related patents from 2006... http://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2010/02/apples-media-players-may-gain-cool-sense-line-controls.html ...have different engineers working on them.

@Sally. A ton of prior art is meaningless if no one has applied it to a tablet as Apple is proposing. You lose.

Tons of prior art on these sorts of secondary displays.

I think this is going to debut on a future iPad (2012-2014). On the other hand, there's another patent listed above in the "patents of interest section" that would support an iPhone like style.

@Chano: Apple filled this patent more than a year ago. And they must've figured out a way to do this and integrate it nicely to the iDevices, instead of just blabbering an idea of 'hey we can do this'.

And I posited just these ideas on a blogsite more than a year ago.
Parallelism happens!

A complete game changer. This technology will make the iDevice even more incredible.
